Fields by Darren Lutz "This image was created using LightWave 3D 5.5 in the Washburn University LightWave classes held in San Francisco. The scene started out as a two point polygon tutorial in LightWave 3D Essentials and continued right through to Advanced Lighting and Camera Techniques."

Darren took all six LightWave workshops in San Francisco.
Turtle by Sandy Tietyen "I used MetaNurbs for the turtle and applied bark.srf. I could not get the bark surface to look like bark on the trees so I ended up scanning a piece of bark that I found in my back yard. This frame is part of an animation in which the turtle gets pelted in the head with two of the three acorns."

Sandy Tietyen
Cedarburg, Wisconsin

Sandy took LightWave 3D Essentials in Topeka, Organic Modeling & Character Animation in Detroit, and Advanced Lighting and Camera Techniques in Minneapolis.

The technique of scanning things like bark is something Bob firmly believes in. He has probably scanned more bizarre surfaces than anyone you will ever meet.

Navy anchor by Mary Graves This is a Single Anchor Leg Mooring System, used in offshore petroleum product delivery. This still was done for our Training Department to use in instructing Navy divers in the deployment and operation of this equipment.

I did most of the modeling in AutoCAD R14, then exported out of AutoCAD and into LightWave MNodeler as 3DS objects. I used LightWave to reduce sizes of models, add surfaces, etc. The oceans and hoses were modeled and surfaced in LightWave. Eight lights were used to simulate sunlight. The ocean surface uses crumple, transparency, and some reflection. My objective was to present a technically correct graphic with emphasis on the equipment rather than the landscape. Other stills show equipment submerged on the ocean bottom with hoses running to the tanker and to land. I produced animations showing a tank flooding sequence. Stills and animations will be used in Computer Based Training.

Angel by Jennifer Hachigian "Angel Vision"

Jennifer Hachigian
Northville, Michigan

Jennifer took both Organic Modeling & Character Animation Essentials and Intermediate Organic Modeling & Character Animation in Detroit in 1998.
She used the MetaNURBS and spline modeling techniques taught in those classes to create the little red-haired girl.

Check out Jennifer's web page showing how she created this image at http://members.xoom.com/jarvia/3D/gallery/angel.html

Jennifer maintains a cool web site for Super Cel-Shader at http://members.xoom.com/jarvia/3D/celshade.htmlJeni

Ferdinand took all six workshops in Baltimore/Washington DC.
He created this image in LightWave 3D for a contest. n
